Biography
Sergeant Aubrey L. McDade Jr. is a United States Marine Corps veteran, Navy Cross recipient, author, and founder of REAL DEAL.
During the Second Battle of Fallujah on November 11, 2004, McDade Jr. braved intense enemy fire to rescue three wounded Marines, earning him the Navy Cross — becoming the first African American to receive the honor since 9/11. His actions that day exemplify the core values of the Marine Corps: honor, courage, and commitment.
After 18 years of service, McDade Jr. retired in 2017 as a Gunnery Sergeant and transitioned to a new mission: helping others push through their pain. He is the author of "The Wars We're Given", a powerful book that shares his journey from trauma to triumph.
Today, McDade Jr. speaks internationally on resilience, leadership, and mental health, and mentors veterans and young people ages 12–21 through REAL DEAL, which helps people become future-ready through honest relationships, practical coaching, and real opportunities.
"No man left behind isn't just a military value. It's a way of life."
— Aubrey L. McDade Jr.
